Sector wheels may be unknown to many of you. In fact, they belong to the bicycle manufacturer Kinesis UK, which also makes other types of components.

Well, I wanted to highlight the GCI range for being wheels intended for gravel and for being made of carbon. Next, I detail its key aspects.

SECTOR GCI

It is funny how carbon seemed like a material intended only for road cycling. This discipline requires light and resistant materials. But in recent times, gravel has been incorporating solutions around this material. Not only on wheels, but increasingly we see from handlebars to seatposts, or complete frames.

This is the case of the GCI Sector, and they are added to the cast of off-road cycling wheels made with this lightweight material. As you can see, its appearance is somewhat different from what we are used to seeing. That is, with the naked eye we can see a kind of rectangles that seem to intertwine with each other (type a chessboard).

It is not a sticker, but this is due to the treatment of its fibers. And it is that a final layer called TeXtreme is used. It is an extended drag fabric created from a blend of Toray T700 and Innegra carbon fiber, the latter being very resistant and used to manufacture bicycle frames, such as the Orro Terra C Adventure.

In short, the brand claims that they are wheels that have 75% more impact resistance than standard carbon wheels of the same profile. GCi carbon wheels are significantly more wear resistant and less prone to catastrophic failure. In fact, you have a lifetime guarantee.

As for the data of the wheels themselves, they have a depth of 38mm, an internal width of 24mm and an external width of 31mm. Their diameter is 700c, making them ideal wheels to roll with some agility on all types of terrain.

This wheelset weighs around 1,690 grams. Compared with other models that I have analyzed, example Spinergy GXC (1,495 grams), or the Hunt 35 Carbon (1,548 grams) are somewhat heavier. But as I have always passed on, lightness should not be a decisive factor when purchasing a product for cycling off-road.

Regarding the number of spokes that it places on each rim, there are 24. It is not an excessive number compared to other models that usually mount a greater number, especially on the rear wheel with 28.

These wheels are also suitable for tube or tubeless tires. The recommended measurement covers tires with a width from 30c to 50c. Also ideal for 12mm thru axles.

“The recommended measurement is for tires with a width of 30c up to 50c

In short, light, and strong carbon wheels, with a certain high profile, and ideal for gravel or cyclocross bikes.
